Renae Jones Secures SAHOF Scholarship

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF) today announced the final 16 outstanding young athletes who have been selected in its 2022 Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

The final wave of scholarship holders who hail from a variety of sports including Athletics, Archery, Artistic Swimming, Boxing, Fencing, Figure Skating, Gymnastics, Netball, Shooting, Skateboarding, Taekwondo and Tennis have been selected in SAHOF’s Tier 3 Scholarship Program. Our very own Renae jones was one of the new scholarship holders.

Shooting Australia High Performance Director Adam Sachs had this to say:

” So early in her Trap Shooting career, Renae has already proven she is very dedicated to her sport and beginning to show the potential that is needed to be at the top of her field. With many aspirations and at the young age of 18, to be part of the 2022 Scholarship and Mentoring Program and one of only four target shooting Athletes presented with this opportunity since 2012, will enable Renae to further engage in training and domestic competition opportunities as she continues to pave her path in the sport. Shooting Australia fully supports Renae’s development as an Athlete and congratulate her on being awarded this opportunity through SAHOF.

Renae Jones had this to say:

“I am extremely honoured to receive this Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship because there have been so many insanely talented & inspiring athletes that have also received this prestigious award. This Scholarship means a lot as it is recognises the dedication and hard work that I have committed to my sport over the past five years. Covid-19 has proved a challenge by preventing competition and training at times however, this recognition inspires me to continue working hard. The Scholarship will assist with many training and competition expenses as well as help fund international travel so I can gain more experience on the world stage. Thank you for this opportunity and congratulations to the other recipients”

Sport Australia Hall of Fame Chief Executive Officer, Adrianne Sarkozy said: “We are all delighted to see such a varied array of sports represented in this program. From the traditional Olympic and Paralympic sports such as swimming, cycling and athletics to Olympic and Paralympic debut sports such as skateboarding, sport climbing and bocce. Additionally, the program provides inclusion for professional and non-Olympic/Paralympic sports such as cricket, netball, lawn bowls and many others. It is a unique program and an opportunity to inspire the next generation of Australian sporting heroes.”

Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program Chair, Sue Stanley OAM said: “We acknowledge a further 16 elite young Australian athletes as Tier 3 Scholarship Holders and, through the Scholarship & Mentoring Program, offer them encouragement and financial assistance to help shape their athletic futures and achieve their dreams.
