Kiara Dean wins Echuca-Moama Senior Sportstar of the Year

Shooting Australia Pathways National Squad athlete Kiara Dean has been awarded the 2022 Echuca-Moama Senior Sportstar of the Year award during a ceremony in Moama overnight. Dean, an Echuca-Moama resident, secured her eligibility for Sportstar of the year after winning the monthly award in May in recognition of her Olympic Trap Clay Target Shooting achievements.

Supporting Deans nomination for the awards were domestic and international feats including winning the Victorian State Ladies Trap Titles, a Junior World Cup individual silver medal and bronze teams medal (Germany) and a Junior World Championships Gold medal (Croatia).

21 year old Dean who has been shooting competitively since the age of 12 under the watchful eye of her avid competitor parents Kerrie and Nick (pictured above) said ‘I am incredibly humbled to win such a prestigious award. We have some really incredible athletes within the Echuca-Moama area and to be standing alongside them and receive the 2022 Sportstar of the Year award is an absolute honour. Our sport is one that is not always in the spotlight and to receive an award such as this is a big step in the right direction for the target shooting sports.’

Dean is now looking forward to National Team selection in 2023 when she will compete for the first time as a senior in the Women’s Olympic Trap event.
