Shooting Australia Aligns Constitution, while Scott Houston Joins the Board

On Wednesday 25 June, Shooting Australia held a Special General Meeting to consider an amendment to its Constitution that will align it with the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) Sport Governance Standards. Shooting Australia is required to comply to these standards by the 30th of June 2026 as a condition of its funding from the ASC.

The key amendments to the Constitution were voted upon by Shooting Australia’s Member Organisations and were approved unanimously. The key amendments included:

Director Composition

  • Ensuring the Shooting Australia Board has a minimum of 40% appointed directors, resulting in a reduction in the number of elected directors from 5 to 4 and an increase in the number of appointed directors from 2 to 4.
  • This will provide for a minimum Board size of 4 and up to 8 with which aligns with the ASC’s recommended optimal Board size of 7 or 8.

Gender Provisions

  • The Shooting Australia Board demonstrating a strong and public commitment to progressing towards achieving diversity, equity and inclusion goals with no one gender accounting for more than 50% of the total number of directors.

SHOOTING AUSTRALIA CONSTITUTION

In addition to these constitutional changes, Shooting Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Houston to the Board.

Adelaide based Scott, is a former professional table tennis athlete and an experienced senior executive in the sports industry. His CV includes executive roles with the International Table Tennis Federation – Oceania, Table Tennis Australia and the South Australian Cricket Association.

Additionally, Scott has held Board and committee positions with Commonwealth Games Australia and the Olympic Sports Federation of Oceania, before joining as Shooting Australia’s Nominations Committee as its Independent Chairperson in 2023.

Of his appointment Scott said “I’m excited to join Shooting Australia’s Board. I hope that I can bring an alternative view from the perspective of someone who has come from outside of the sport of shooting. I think it’s important to have that diversity on the Board.”

A call for Board nominations will take place leading into the Shooting Australia Annual General Meeting that will be held in November.
