As October comes to an end, we reflect on another month of intense international competitions and exciting announcements.

It is going to be another year of jam packed domestic competition opportunities and we are very fortunate to be able to partner with Event Hosts to offer this program.

The 2025 ISSF Shotgun World Championship took place this month in Athens, Greece, bringing together over, 400 athletes from 64 National Federations. These world class athletes went head-to-head across 5 events including Men’s Skeet, Women’s Skeet, Men’s Trap, Women’s Trap and Trap Mixed Teams.
This was the first time in history that Greece has played host to the Shotgun World Championships, a competition that produced some fierce contests and world class results, including a bronze medal for our Australian Women’s Trap team.

Australia was represented at the event by a team of 10 shotgun athletes, with 4 skeet and 6 trap athletes.
Shooting Australia would also like to acknowledge Gleniss Lawrence for her efforts as Jury Chairperson at the ISSF Shotgun World Championships.

Shooting Australia congratulates the two athletes who have received invitations to compete at the 2025 ISSF World Cup Final.
To receive an invite to attend the 2025 ISSF World Cup Final, athletes were required to either win a world cup or be selected based on their position on the ISSF Ranking system.
Penny Smith’s invitation was the result of her Women’s Trap gold medal win at the 2025 ISSF Buenos Aires World Cup.
Laetisha Scanlan invitation was the result of her Women’s Trap gold medal win at the 2025 ISSF Lonato Shotgun World Cup.
Shooting Australia CEO, Adam Sachs, congratulated the invited athletes, highlighting, “This invitation to compete at the ISSF World Cup Final is an important acknowledgement of Penny and Laetisha’s performances in international competitions in 2025.”
“The opportunity to go head-to-head with the best athletes in the world will help both athletes to progress their competitiveness in advance of the qualification for the LA 2028 Olympic Games which begins next year.”

ISSF WORLD CUP FINAL 2025 EVENT INFO

So early in his Trap Shooting career, Lucas has already proven he is very dedicated to his sport and starting to show the potential that is needed to be at the top of his field.
At ages 16 and 18 Lucas was selected to represent Australia as a part of the 2023 and 2024 Junior World Championship Teams, where he competed alongside his Australian team-mates in Changwon, Korea and Lima, Peru.
Lucas will be the seventh target shooting athlete since 2012 to be presented with the opportunity to be part of a Sport Australian Hall of Fame (SAHOF) Scholarship and Mentoring Program.
Living in regional Victoria, and commuting to metropolitan Melbourne for training, and throughout Australia for competition, being included in this program will provide Lucas with additional resources to enable further engagement in training and domestic competition opportunities as he continues to pave his path in the sport.
Shooting Australia fully supports Lucas’ development as a young Athlete with a bright future and congratulate him on being awarded this opportunity through SAHOF.
We look forward to continuing to work closely with Lucas on his sporting journey.
