COMMITMENT
The protection of personal information is important to Shooting Australia (SA). SA is committed to respecting the right to privacy and the protection of personal information.

OBJECTIVES
This document sets out SA’s Privacy Policy and how SA will manage personal information.

BACKGROUND
Personal Information is information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database) from which it is possible to determine a person’s identity.
The information collected by SA about a particular person will vary depending on the circumstances of collection. It may include, but is not limited to, a person’s name, email and/or postal address, phone number, date of birth, gender, credit card details, insurance details, passport information or communication history with SA.

SA COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
Information may be collected from a person when they:
a) become a member of a club, association or other body which is a member of SA or affiliated with a member of SA;
b) subscribe to any publication of SA, including electronic publications;
c) voluntarily provide details to SA;
d) access any SA website;
e) participate in any SA program, activity, competition or event; or
f) are elected/appointed to the Board or a committee of SA.
Information may also be collected from a person when SA is required to do so by law (for example, where required to do so under legislation (either State or Federal) in Australia).
There may be occasions when SA will collect information directly from a person and also from third parties. SA will, before or at the time of collection, take reasonable steps to ensure that person(s) is aware of the:
a) purpose or purposes for which the information is collected; and
b) organisations or types of organisations to which SA usually discloses information of that kind.
By providing your personal information to SA, you consent to its use, storage and disclosure in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

SA USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
SA and third parties to whom SA may disclose personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, may use personal information to:
a) verify identity;
b) research, develop, run, administer and market competitions, programs, activities and other events relating to a variety of shooting sports including clay target shooting, rifle shooting and pistol shooting;
c) research, develop and market products, services, merchandise and special offers made available by SA and third parties;
d) administer, manage and provide access to www.shootingaustralia.org (SA website); or
e) keep individuals informed of news and information relating to various shooting sport events and activities via various mediums.

USE AND DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
SA may disclose personal information to a range of organisations which include, but are not limited to:
a) organisations involved in shooting;
b) companies SA engages to carry out functions and activities on SA’s behalf;
c) SA’s professional advisers, including our accountants, auditors and lawyers;
d) SA’s insurers;
e) SA members and other affiliated organisations (including Australian Clay Target Association, National Rifle Association of Australia Ltd, Pistol Australia, Target Rifle Australia Inc, Field and Game Federation of Australia Inc); and
f) the Australian Sports Commission, Australian Institute of Sport, Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, Commonwealth Games Australia, the International Shooting Sport Federation, World Shooting Para Sports and Oceania Shooting Federation.
SA assumes you consent to SA using non-sensitive personal information to provide better services for marketing purposes (including disclosure of such information to service providers). Every person whose data is collected by SA has the option to refuse e-mail, SMS or posted offers from SA by making a request in writing to SA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or making use of special links in the email where the option to unsubscribe is provided. However, information relating to the option to unsubscribe from those communications may be retained.
In addition, SA may also disclose personal information:
a) with express or implied consent from the individual;
b) when required or authorised by law;
c) to an enforcement body when reasonably necessary; or
d) to lessen or prevent a threat to an individual or public health or safety.

HEALTH AND OTHER SENSITIVE INFORMATION
SA is required, by law, to obtain consent in the collection of ‘sensitive’ information. Sensitive
information includes, but is not limited to, health information and information that discloses race,
ethnicity, political opinions, religious or philosophical believes or affiliations or details of criminal
records.
SA assumes you consent to the collection of all sensitive information provided to us for use in accordance with this Privacy Policy, unless told otherwise.
SA may use health information for insurance purposes and to ensure that programs SA operate are run safely and in accordance with any special health needs our participants may have. In addition, we may use de-identified health information and other sensitive information to carry out research, to prepare submissions to government or to plan events and activities.
SA does not provide a Health Service as defined under the Privacy Act 1988 and will not use health information for the purposes of providing a Health Service as defined under the Privacy Act 1988.

PROTECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION
SA stores information in different ways, including in paper and electronic form. The security of personal information is important to SA. SA will take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Some of the security measures SA may use include confidentiality requirements of SA employees, affiliated associations and service providers, security measures for system access and security measures for the SA website.

SA WEBSITE
When users visit the SA website, SA systems may record certain information about their use of the site, including the web pages visited and the time and date of their visit. SA uses this information to help analyse and improve the performance of the SA website. In addition, SA may use ‘cookies’ on the SA website. Cookies are small text files that help a website to remember the preferences of users to improve the experience of using that website. In some cases, the cookies that SA use may collect some personal information. SA will treat this information in the same way as other personal information SA collects. Users are free to disable cookies on their internet browser to prevent this information being collected.
Websites linked to the SA website are not subject to SA’s privacy standards, policies or procedures. SA cannot take any responsibility for the collection, use, disclosure or security of any personal information that is provided to a third-party website.
The SA website contains a link to its Facebook page and other online forums where contributors may provide their own details or opinions. SA takes no responsibility for information publicised in these public forums and accepts no association with the views expressed except where the contribution to the topic has been provided by officials of SA in their official capacity.

ACCESS TO AND CORRECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
SA will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information it collects, uses or discloses is accurate, complete and up-to-date. SA relies, however, on the accuracy of personal information as provided to it, both directly and indirectly. If you find that the personal information SA holds about you is inaccurate, incomplete or out-of-date, please contact SA immediately and SA will take reasonable steps to ensure that it is corrected.
