Shooting Australia Encourages Education and Development through the ISSF Academy

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) launched its ‘ISSF Academy’ in 2024 as they look to “Pioneer a new era in education through inclusivity and modern approach to coach development.”

The new ISSF Academy will look to develop the skills of a more diverse range of coaches, including, both experienced and inexperienced coaches.

The Academy will achieve this by offering online D and C level coaching courses for those looking to begin their coaching journey. These courses are publicly available to all and are conducted through online virtual learning modules over a period of 12 weeks. Shooting Australia Chief Executive Officer, Adam Sachs, highlights, “This offers community coaches the opportunity to participate in ISSF courses and develop their skills independent of and in addition to, the development opportunities provided by Shooting Australia.”

The Academy will additionally be introducing A and B level courses that focus on coaching at a high-performance level in early 2026. Sachs says “Coach development is a critical component in the advancement of sport shooting and the development of world-class athletes. As such, the courses offered by the ISSF Academy will underpin the coach development programs and opportunities provided by Shooting Australia moving forward.”

Adam Sachs, commends the ISSF on the launch of the ISSF Academy, highlighting that, “There is a direct correlation between the quality and experience of coaching staff and the performances of athletes. As such the development of coaches in Australia is a key focus area for Shooting Australia as we enter the LA2028 Olympic and Paralympic Cycle and look further ahead to Brisbane 2032.”

He continued, “The courses that the ISSF Academy is beginning to roll out will benefit all coaches in Australia, from grass roots to high-performance. We encourage coaches to consider registering for D and C level courses to enhance their qualifications and experience. We are currently investigating how these courses can be supplemented by opportunities delivered by Shooting Australia and other national high-performance organisations.”

Applications to participate in the D and C level can be made individually by coaches through the ISSF Academy website now.
