Shooting Australia Shotgun National Talent Coach

At the conclusion of a competitive recruitment process, Shooting Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Renae Birgan as the Shotgun National Talent Coach.

Renae is a world class Sporting Clays athlete and someone that has actively supported the development of other athletes through her work as mentor and coach. Professionally, she has worked in the public sector in Queensland and Victoria and is currently a well-established and successful business co-owner/operator with her partner. Renae will be leaving her business to pursue her new path as a professional coach and we are looking forward to supporting her transition and development as the latest member of the Shooting Australia team from 19 April, 2023.

Of her appointment Renae says “I am honoured and grateful for this opportunity and I am excited to start the next chapter in my clay target shooting career, supporting Australia’s current and rising stars. I am looking forward to working and supporting all the athletes through the various stages of their sporting journeys, and contributing to the growth and success of the Australian national shotgun team on the world stage.”

This new position will be funded through the additional investment that Shooting Australia has received from the Australian Institute of Sport to deliver our Performance Pathways Strategy over the next two years (and beyond).

Renae will work closely with Aurelie Gibson (Performance Pathway Manager) and Richard Sammon (Shotgun National Coach) to build a program of challenge and support around our current and future Pathways National Squad athletes in Shotgun. A key focus will be helping athletes to plan and execute purposeful and deliberate performance preparation in their home daily training environments (DTE’s) and through domestic camps. This will also involve working closely with athletes’ coaches to challenge and support their development.

A secondary focus for Renae in this role will be supporting athletes in international competition, including leading our Junior National Team and supporting Richard and the athletes on our Senior National Team to targeted international competitions.

Shooting Australia welcomes Renae to the team.
