Australia to welcome its first international shooting Para sport competition in seven years at the Sydney International Shooting Centre.
Sydney will welcome the shooting Para sport elite back to Australia in May next year when it stages the Sydney 2027 World Shooting Para Sport (WSPS) World Cup, a direct quota allocation event for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
The World Cup will take place from 12 to 22 May 2027 at the Sydney International Shooting Centre, the world-class venue purpose-built for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games and host of the 2019 WSPS World Championships.
It will be the first WSPS World Cup held in Oceania in more than a decade, following the last edition hosted in Sydney in 2015. Shooting Australia will serve as the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
“This is an exciting time in our sport and, as we get closer to the LA28 Games, what better place to host a qualification event than Australia, where Shooting Australia has long endorsed an all-inclusive competition calendar for both Para and non-Para athletes,” said Tyler Anderson, World Shooting Para Sport Senior Manager.
“The Sydney International Shooting Centre is part of the history of shooting Para sport – not only as the venue of the 2000 Paralympic Games, but also for hosting the first World Championships to combine all our current disciplines, including Para trap and vision impaired (VI) shooting. We are thrilled to share with our community that our sport is returning to Australia next year.”
