Sydney 2027 WSPS World Cup

Sydney will welcome the shooting Para sport elite back to Australia in May next year when it stages the Sydney 2027 World Shooting Para Sport (WSPS) World Cup, a direct quota allocation event for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

The World Cup will take place from 12 to 22 May 2027 at the Sydney International Shooting Centre, the world-class venue purpose-built for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games and host of the 2019 WSPS World Championships.

It will be the first WSPS World Cup held in Oceania in more than a decade, following the last edition hosted in Sydney in 2015. Shooting Australia will serve as the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

2026 WSPS World Championships – Changwon, Korea

SThe 2026 World Shooting Para Sport (WSPS) World Championships were held at the Changwon International Shooting Range in South Korea from 7 to 16 September.

This year’s WSPS World Championships, one of the largest in recent history, welcomed 324 of the world’s best Para shooting athletes from 53 different countries, for six days of fierce international competition. The intensity at this year’s competition was also heightened by the fact that this event offered athletes their first opportunities to claim LA 2028 Paralympic Games quota spots.

Australia was represented at the 2026 WSPS World Championships by three Rifle athletes; Scottie Brydon, Natalie Smith and Anton Zappelli, as well as Para Trap athlete, Nigel Young. The team was supported by Shooting Australia’s Precision Program Manager and Para Lead, Catherine Berry, Para Development Coach, Elise Collier and Team Physio, Ben Frick.

Australian Official Represents at Junior World Cup

Shooting Australia congratulates Vince Lizzi, who represented Australia as an International Referee at the September ISSF Junior World Cup Shotgun held in Porpetto, Italy. Vince was also selected to referee the Trap Mixed Team Junior Final during the competition.

“I have to say that apart from the nerves, I felt confident in my ability to perform my role as referee. Experience is the best training, using the correct methods.

I feel now after completing this event, I have had affirmation that what we do in Australia is excellent, and my preparation was good. Being in front at the finals gave me a sense that ‘I can do anything’ now. Always nervous, but confident.”
