2022 Shooting Australia National Squad Applications Now Open!

Applications to be part of the 2022 Shooting Australia National Squad are now open to athletes in Olympic and Paralympic shooting disciplines and events.

The 2022 National Squad structure and application process will be the same as that used to select the 2021 National Squad, and again recognises the different levels and kinds of support that athletes require to aid their development towards winning medals at benchmark events.

There are 3 Squads:

High Performance Squad – Current world-class athletes who have demonstrated their ability to regularly make finals and win medals in International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) competitions in recent years. These athletes continue to demonstrate their commitment to high performance training/preparation on and off the range

Performance Squad – Athletes who are regularly achieving selection to National Teams and whose international performances indicate that they are ‘on track’ to making finals and win medals in ISSF competitions. These athletes are also demonstrating a commitment to high performance training/preparation on and off the range

Pathways Squad – Athletes who are considered capable of achieving National Team selection based largely on their performances in domestic competition (i.e., junior or senior) and demonstrated commitment to becoming a high-performance athlete

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If I was a 2021 Squad Member, do I need to reapply if I would like to be considered as part of the 2022 Squad?

Yes you do! But we won’t ask you to provide the same level of detail as new applicants because we already have this information.

Could I apply if I have never been part of a National Squad?

Yes! If you feel you might fit into one of the National Squad categories above, then absolutely.

How is a successful application determined?

The decisions on successful applications will be made by Shooting Australia’s National Coaches and High Performance staff, and will be based on a combination of each athlete’s current level of performance (i.e. domestic and international), and their potential to progress towards world-class performance standards in the future.

Successful athletes will then be allocated to the squad (High Performance, Performance or Pathways) that best suits their age and stage of development within Shooting’s Athlete Development Pathway.

How will I benefit by becoming a National Squad Member?

Shooting Australia’s National Squad Members will have access to:

  • Planning support
  • Technical and performance support
  • National camps
  • Competition support
  • Athlete/performance lifestyle support
