Shooting Australia today announced the 27 shooting athletes selected to the Australian Team for the 2021 Oceania Championships that were cancelled in July. The Oceania Shooting Federation cancelled the event in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, however, Shooting Australia opted to complete its selection series, which was well-progressed, in support of athletes continuing to access domestic competition.
The 2021 Australian Oceania Championships Team is comprised of twelve Shotgun, eight Pistol and seven Rifle athletes, and includes fourteen out of the fifteen Shooting athletes who competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Team also includes Victoria Rossiter who joins her brother Jack as part of the 10m Air Rifle and 50m Rifle 3 Positions teams, and juniors Michael Davis and Mark Du Rose who have been named in their second international teams for 2021.
High Performance Director Adam Sachs acknowledged that “while it is disappointing that the named athletes will miss the opportunity to compete at the 2021 Oceania Championships, we commend them on their commitment to attend and perform at the selection series of events and congratulate them on being named as part of the team. We hope that these athletes will earn another opportunity to compete at this event in two years’ time.”
Shooting Australia will work with the Oceania Shooting Federation in the planning and delivery of the next Oceania Championships with the date and location yet to be confirmed.
